I can still hardly believe it!!! River is so thrilled about soon becoming a big brother.

Ok, I know. I suck at NaBloPoMo. I could use the excuse of chicken pox, but the truth is that River didn’t need much extra mothering at all! He barely acted sick, didn’t complain of itching, didn’t make his pox bleed from scratching, and overall felt ok. Perhaps he slept a bit longer than usual, and I sure did let him watch WAY more movies than is normal for us. But, on the whole, it was a MUCH easier experience than I had prepared myself for. He still has some scabbed-over pox that are healing, but nothing more.
I don’t have any pictures of his chicken pox, since he was adamant that he did NOT want a picture taken. 🙂
In total, we exposed 4 kiddos who came over to play and share a lollypop. We’ll know in a few weeks if it worked. I have my fingers crossed for them.
In other news, I found out this morning that my father’s father died yesterday. He lives in Florida, and I haven’t seen him since I was 3 or so. My dad isn’t very close to him, either. We knew he was sick and in the hospital. Just odd to think about. My only living grandparent is now my mother’s father, who I would never let near my family. He sexually and physically abused about half of my aunts. He lives far, far away, thankfully.
I never grew up with ‘real’ grandparents. I’m grateful that River knows all four of his grandparents, and two (my mom and dad) live within about an hour of him, and my parents are young enough that I expect they will be a part of his life for a very long time. Yes, for this I am grateful.
For those with some time to kill, here are all 454 photos from our trip to Peru. I have some of them titled and explained, finally.
Home we are. Finally! We arrived back home late Thursday afternoon. Thursday night, I found myself sick with an intestinal bug. Real fun. I’m pretty sure it was from our first meal back in the states that we stopped for after arriving at the airport. Today is the first morning I’ve woken up feeling myself since I left Peru.
We have about 250 pictures of our trip, from start to finish. I’m uploading them at the moment to Picasa, and will share the link. In the meantime, here are a couple:
It has been a few days since I’ve updated this blog.
I’ve attended 2 births within a 3 day time period. Beautiful babies!!!
I’ve had 2 nights of full sleep in the last 5 days. And, I feel rested.
I’ve been working on my new website. (Don’t judge it just yet; I’m not done writing a few of the pages, and I need to fix some formatting problems, add some pictures, etc).
I made 2 pints of Russian pickled cherries, now aging in the fridge for a month.
We went blueberry picking again.
I’ve come to terms with the fact that River didn’t catch chicken pox. Oh well; we’ll try again some other time.
I began reading a new book.
I repaired our inflatable pool and this morning, scrubbed it out and began filling it. It’s going to be a HOT day today.
I’ve been thinking about my answers to MN’s meme.
I’ve been informed by River that he doesn’t just want a new brother OR sister; he wants ‘a brother AND a sister: TWINS!’ I’ll keep his request in mind.
We are headed to the library today to renew our membership. I had let it lapse, since it costs $60/year. River was still able to check out a limited number of books, I could check out ONE adult book on my card. But because trips to the library aren’t enjoyable to me when we have to limit what we can check out, I’ve avoided going for the last few months, and I miss it. I miss having stacks of books to flip through, books on tapes, and new music. So, today, I’ll be fixing the situation, and giving the library $60 in addition to whatever late fines I owe at the moment. It’s worth it.
We had all of the ingredients for this, so Walter and I made this together. After it was cooled down, we all had a tea party with River’s little tea set.
The fruits of our labor are in 2 big buckets in my kitchen, waiting to be washed and frozen whole, or jammed.
In 1.5 hours, Walter and I picked 20 lbs of berries: 12lb blueberries, and 8lb raspberries. Total cost? $24.00
The first of many more trips for blueberries this year! It’s a hot day, so we headed to the farm early this morning to avoid the heat. There were tons of cars, and they were much busier than we remember them being last year. It’s great!
The farm we go to is about 25 miles away from us, and they follow mostly organic practices. They have u-pick blueberries, raspberries, black currants, black berries, marion berries, apples, pears, asian pears, figs, kiwis, pie cherries, and some veggies. It’s the figs that I am anxious to pick this year. I am hoping I don’t miss their harvest this time around like I did last year.
